Communicorp acquires eight Global Radio stations
Communicorp, the Irish commercial radio group, has acquired eight radio stations from Global Radio.
The stations involved in the sale are Smooth Radio North West, Smooth Radio North East, Smooth Radio East Midlands, Capital FM South Wales, Capital FM Scotland, Real Radio North Wales, Real Radio Yorkshire and Real XS Manchester.
Communicorp and Global Radio have signed a brand licensing agreement that will see Real Radio North Wales become Capital FM and the remaining Real Radio stations will become Heart. In addition, Smooth Radio will expand to Gold's AM frequencies across the UK with the exception of London, East Midlands and Manchester.
As a result of this sale, Communicorp is now the fourth largest commercial radio group in the UK, after Global Radio, Bauer Media and UTV Media.
