About your journalism

What do you write about?

I predominantly write about Islam, human rights, world news, Islamic finance and banking. In addition, I also do features and columns on parenting.

Where are we likely to see your work?

Global Islamic Finance Magazine (GIF), CNN, The Huffington Post, The Muslim News and many other print and online publications. I currently work as a freelance financial reporter for Business Media Group GIF Magazine where I write news and feature articles for the print and online version.

What’s the most memorable work you’ve done?

My most memorable piece of work has to be an article I wrote on the tsunami in Sri Lanka. I went to Sri Lanka to visit the victims of the tsunami and interviewed people in the village of Kirinda. Their stories really moved me to tears and it is an experience I will remember to this day.

What interview or feature would you love the chance to do?

If I had the opportunity I would like to interview David Cameron.

About you and PRs

Where do you source ideas for articles?

I get my ideas from a variety of sources from press releases, events, conferences and other sources of news in the national newspapers and online.

How can PRs be useful to you?

PRs can put you in touch with the right people and develop some innovative ideas for future stories. In addition they can provide some expert information that can often be a much needed source for inspiration!     

How and when do you like them to get in touch?

They can contact me via email whenever there is a press release that they think is relevant and of interest.

Do you find press conferences, trips, parties and other events useful or an interruption?

Press conferences and other important events can be useful in networking and a great source for potential ideas.

If you could make one change to the way PRs deal with you, what would it be?

I have had a really good experience with PRs so far so there is nothing that I would change at this moment.                             

About you

How would you pay the bills if you weren’t a journalist?

That’s a hard question, but a good one! I really enjoy being a journalist; it’s been a life long ambition so I cannot place myself in any other profession.

If we gave you £1000, how would you spend it?

If you gave me £1000 I would give some money to the charities I support and also put some into savings for the family!

Do you tweet? Why, why not?

Yes I do tweet and it’s quite a quick way of getting your message across. You can find me tweeting @tasnimnazeer1.

What books are on your bedside table, magazines in your bag, or blogs on your screen?

I was given a book to read by a friend at the Universal Federation for World Peace entitled Global Peace for Humanity, so that is currently on my table. I also enjoy reading a magazine called SISTERs.
